The
first 2LO transmitter
During
1922 the British
Broadcasting Company was
set up by a consortium of
leading British
radio
manufacturers. The BBC then
took over the
Marconi
2LO
London
station
and
started regular
broadcasts
from Marconi House in the
Strand on 14th
November 1922. The
2LO first transmitter was
designed by Henry Round
and Charles Franklin of
Marconi’s Wireless
Telegraph Company. Its
first test broadcasts commenced
in May 1922. The
transmitter was in this original
configuration (below) for only a
very short time as it was
being rebuilt within weeks
to take advantage of new
regulations allowing
increased transmitting
power.
